In 2023, the C3RD and the Amsterdam Centre for International Law (ACIL) jointly launched a lecture series that investigates the emerging scholarly field of ‘International Law and Technology.’ This series explores the theoretical and methodological frameworks, underlying assumptions, and interdisciplinary collaborations that shape this evolving area of study. It convenes leading scholars in international law, international relations, and legal theory to present their research and discuss the wide-ranging implications of the increasing digitization of socio-economic life.

The expanding influence of digital technologies is reshaping how law and governance function, opening up new perspectives on normativity. How should we conceptualize the relationship between international law and technology? What new forms of normativity arise from this interaction? How must legal reasoning adapt to address the complexities of techno-legal assemblages? These critical questions drive the core of the lecture series, which seeks to foster a nuanced understanding of how international law engages with technology and how this intersection is transforming legal thought and practice.

In addition to the lecture series, a podcast series titled Digital Echoes, produced from the recordings of the lectures, is now available for listening. The series is currently accessible on the Völkerrechtblog website, and it will soon be available on Spotify, through the Völkerrechtspodcast channel.

A second season of the podcast is already in production and is anticipated for release in the fall. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue, both the lecture series and the podcast illuminate the changing landscape of law and governance, offering insights into how legal systems may adapt to the challenges posed by technological advancements.
